We’re building the largest closet on the island, and the tragedy is its not mine. We didn’t plan on building the closets to end all closets in the nursery, we are doing it out of necessity because my Father in law did a real bonehead thing. A bonehead thing to end all bonehead things. It went like this. We closed on our house the day before the twinnies were born. This was not planned. The twinnies were born 7 wks early, the house hunting/negotiations took 4 months longer than we anticipated. Anyway, loved the house- very charming, all redwood, used to be a schoolhouse, supercute, great view, etc. BUT. It was a real dump when we bought it. That’s why we could afford it. We’ve done massive renovations, and its looking pretty smart nowadays, except for a little issue in the nursery. Groan. Clench teeth. Sigh. Alright, here goes. The first and largest renovation we did was the kitchen. The kitchen was beyond horrible when we bought it, I won’t even go there. So- new shiny appliances, new cabinets, sink, floor, everything. Jungledad’s Dad flew over to help with the work. This was very generous of him, and he worked really hard with Jungledad and they did an amazing job. EXCEPT. Except when Jungledad and I went to town to pick out tile, my Father in law, for reasons known only to himself, bypassed the enormous pile of wood in the carport and sawed up several feet of flooring we bought for the girls room. I don’t even know what he used it for, he said something to do with the double oven, who knows. I went ape (internally) because we had just enough flooring to cover the floor. It was an awesome deal because it was a remainder, and we only had a small room to do, and were not Junglerichbastards, so we were pretty pumped to get lovely flooring at that price. Were pumped. After my Father in law’s little stunt, we were left with a huge gaping hole in the nursery’s floor, right around the closet, and no way to get more of that flooring. So we used the other flooring we had that is kind of similar but not at all convincing as the same thing to finish the job. We are building a massive closet to hide the discrepancy between the different types of flooring. We hope to finish the closet this weekend, and it looks as though its going to take up like half the room. Who are we kidding? Peeps will notice. What evs. More room for toys.
